Sociology
The study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society / the study of social human interaction within

Culture - The languages, customs, knowledge, belief, values and norms that combine to make up the way of life any society (more than just the arts)
Ex: combination of things and individual
Identity
What makes an individual and individual
Ex: Ability, age, race, ethnicity, gender, economic status
Surface Culture
what people know about you by looking at you
Shallow Culture
something that someone would know by talking to you for a few minutes
Deep Culture
Something that your family or closest friends would know about you; how you view yourself, what you’ve experienced; your worldview
Race
identity with a group of people descended from a common ancestor
Ethnicity
The shared culture of a social group that differentiates it from others
Gender
Social differences between men and women rather than the anatomical, biological differences between the sexes
Gender Identity
How individuals see there gender
Sex
Based on Reproductive parts
Sexual Orientation
Sexual orientation is about who you’re attracted to and to have a relationship with
Heterosexuality
An attraction towards people of the opposite sex
Homosexuality
An attraction towards people of the same sex
Asexual
No sexual attraction towards other
Social Class
a divition of a society based on status
Poverty
not having enough material possessions or income for a persons needs
Elite
group of people who hold a disproportionate amount of wealth or power
Stigma
characteristic that either social or physical that prevents an individual from being fully accepted into society. The marginalizes the individual or group
Stereotypes
Oversimplification of an individual or group that is widely held in a society
