Marxist theory:
The law enforcement by the police are simply a way of keeping the working class in their place. 3 main elements of the Marxist view of crime and law:
Capitalism causes crime- Crime is inevitable in capitalist society as it is criminogenic. 4 reasons:
-The exploitation of the w/c drives many into poverty meaning crime may be the only way to survive.
-Calitalism always pushes consumer goods through advertising to people meaning this may result in utilitarian crimes to obtain them.
-Inequality cases feelings of alienation and frustration, resulting in violence and vandalism.
-Calitalism causes crime amount the capitalists themselves eg WCC
Making and enforcing the law:
Chambliss argues that laws are made to protest private property of the rich eg theres laws around the homeless living in abandoned properties.
Marxists agreee with interaction it’s in that the law is applied differently to different groups. Eg Carson found that out of 200 companies shi broke safety laws 3 were prosecuted.
Ideological -Crime and law is an ideology.
