Essay: What problem does ethics pose to those who believe in determinism?
If human behavior is determined, people cannot choose their actions. So, nothing they do is either good or bad, nor is it done out of an ethical impulse. Someone cannot be held morally responsible for something they did that was predetermined. If you are going to hold someone accountable, they have to be able to do it. In determinism, you don't have a choice.
44
Essay: Why are most Postmodernists ambivalent toward religion but opposed to organized religious institutions?
Because they don't care. It is private during religion, it is social during institutions. They tolerate religion because it's individualized truth but however organized religion promotes a metanarrative with a social agenda that is oppressive. As long as it's individual, it's personal interpretation; organized religion promotes a metanarrative.
