Marketisation policies often create the illusion of “ parentocracy “ , wherein parents are believed to have equal opportunities to chose schools based on their preferences. Parents from privileged backgrounds, are equipped with cultural and financial resources, are better positioned to navigate the market and secure places in prestigious schools, perpetuating social class divisions and inequalities in educational opportunities.
