Soft Tissue/ MFR Flashcards
(18 cards)
What does “soft Tissue” entail?
Fascia, Muscles. Organs, Nerves, Vasculature, lymphatic
What is fascia not?
Tendons, Ligaments. Aponeuroses
What are the three O words used to describe fascia?
Omipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscient
What is the Pannicular Fasica?
Outmost layer of fascia derived from Mesenchyme surrounds entire body with expeception of the orifices
What is Axial and Appendicular fascia?
Internal to Pannicular layer, surrounds all muscles, periosteum of bone and tendons
What is meningeal fascia?
Surrounds CNS includes the Dura Mater
What is visceral fascia?
surrounds the body cavities, i.e. Pleural, pericardial and peritoneum
What is stress?
The force that attempts to deform a CT structure
What is strain?
The percentage of deformation of CT
Describe what hysteresis is.
The energy lost between loading and unloading the tissue
What is Hooke’s Law?
The strain placed on an elastic body is in proportion to the stress placed on it
What is Wolff’s Law?
Bone will develop accordingly under stresses placed upon it
What is Sherrington’s Law?
When a muscle receives a nerve impulse to contract the antagonists receive a simultaneous impulse to relax
What are the two normal compensatory patterns?
80% L/R/L/R
20% R/L/R/L
Any others deviations are usually symptomatic
What is the definition of soft tissue technique?
A system of diagnosis and treatment directed towards tissues other than skeletal or arthrodial elements
What is an example of relative contraindications given?
Sever osteoporosis prone pressure contraindicated in thoracocostal region, but lateral recumbent could be applied
What are some absolute contraindications?
cannot use technique in the local regions of the following: Fracture or dislocation Neurological entrapment serous vascular compromise local malignancy local infections bleed disorders
What is INR?
Integrated Neuromusculoskeletal Release
combined treatment procedures designed to stretch and reflexively release patterned soft tissue and joint related restrictions
