A

Undesirable existing soil is removed from the site, and new fill (soil) brought in. The new fill must then be compacted.

Q

Proctor Test

A

Testing that determines the optimal moisture content at which a given soil achieves its maximum dry density. Fill is placed in lifts of 8” to 12”, each lift is compacted before the next is placed

A

Pre-loading of the ground with fill to compact and settle the underlying soil before starting construction The added fill is then removed, leaving only the compacted original soil
