When the soldering iron is not being used, where should it always be placed
Inside the spring. It stops you burning your hands and work surfaces. Remember the spring will also be hot!
Why is it important to use the holder when using the soldering iron?
It is a heavy base so it will stop it being knocked over easily
Why should the sponge be kept damp?
So it can be used to clean the tip of the soldering iron
Why must you never touch the soldering iron bit?
This is the part that heats up and should never be touched
What is solder?
A low melting alloy metal made from tin and lead.
What does solder do?
It holds all the components in place rather like a glue
Why must you hold the soldering equipment by the handle?
It is made from plastic so always remains cool
What is the electrical flex?
This brings the electricity to the iron. Just like plugging in any electrical equipment. Please take great care to ensure the hot tip does not touch the flex as it will melt the cable and become very very dangerous
What health and safety point should we consider when using soldering equipment
Open a window for ventilation.
Wear eye protection
