What are the characteristics of an endomorph
- Pear shaped body
- Narrow shoulders
- Wide hips
- High percentage of body fat
- Low centre of gravity
Strengths of endomorph in sports
- Often excel in sports that require power and strength e.g. prop forward in rugby
- Low centre of gravity makes them difficult to move
Weaknesses of endomorphs in sport
Often struggle in endurance events that require cv fitness as they oftn carry excess fat abd have short stride lengths
Characteristics if mesomorph
- High percentage if muscle
- Broad shoulders
- Thin/narrow hips
Strengths of a mesomorph in sports
High percentage of muscle and low percentage of fat makes mesomorphs suited to many sports. Benefits sprinters, weight lifting, gymnastics
Weaknesses of mesomorph in sports
Struggle in endurance events due to high muscle mass
Characteristics of ectomorphs
- Tall and thin
- Low percentage of muscle/fat
- Narrow hips and shoulders
- High centre of gravity
Strengths of ectomorphs in sports
- Low percentage of fat and long limbs means ectomorphs often excel at events requiring cv fitness die to long stride lengths
- High centre of gravity and no excess weight to kift so good at events like long jump
Weaknesses of ectomorphs in sports
Struggle in power/ strength events as low percentage of muscle
