What is required of operators of fire department vehicle?
Valid drivers License
Who are the only members able to operate fire department vehicles?
Members approved and/or qualified by the DOT, and student drivers under supervision of qualified driver
What is the responsibility of the operator of each fire department vehicle?
Drive in a safe and prudent manner under all conditions
What is the operator of an emergency vehicle’s 1st priority?
The safe arrival of the fire department vehicle and the safety of the personnel riding.
Where vehicles must negotiate forward turns with restrictive side clearance and where height clearance is uncertain, what must be used?
Spotters
In non-emergency travel when can emergency warning lights be used?
to increase visibility:
1.backing in or out of a space where vehicles and pedestrians exist
2. Operating in reduced visibility (fog, rain and snow)
3. operating on a limited access highway and unable to maintain speed comparable to flow of traffic
Which should operator do when he/she comes to and unguarded railroad grade crossing?
Come to a complete stop.
How should operators drive?
defensively and be prepared for unexpected action of others
Fire department vehicles are authorized to exceed posted speed limits by how much?
10 mph: under favorable conditions
When shall operator come to a complete stop?
