SP5 Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is the law of reflection?
Angle of incidence = Angle of reflection
Incident ray, reflected ray, and normal all lie in the same plane
What colours make white light?
ROYGBIV (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet)
What colour does a green object appear under red light?
Black (it absorbs red light)
Convex (converging) lens characteristics:
bring parallel rays of light together at focal point
Forms real or virtual images
fixes long-sightedness
Concave (diverging) lens characteristics:
spread out parallel rays of light DDD
Always forms virtual images
Used in correcting short-sightedness
List the EM waves in order of decreasing frequency:
Gamma rays
X-rays
Ultraviolet
Visible light
Infrared
Microwaves
Radio waves
Which EM wave has the longest wavelength?
Radio waves
Microwave uses:
Cooking (2.45GHz absorbed by water)
Satellite communications
X-ray uses:
Medical imaging
Airport security
Why is UV dangerous?
Can cause skin cancer and eye damage
How do ozone layers protect us?
Absorbs harmful UV radiation
What is diffuse reflection?
reflection from rough surface, the light rays scatter in all directions
What is specular reflection?
reflection from smooth surface like a mirror, the light rays bounce off in an orderly way
