Q

Dark Matter and Dark Energy

A

Thought to constitute about 95% of the universe. Dark matter does not emit or interact with light, but its presence is inferred from gravitational effects on visible matter. Dark energy is believed to be responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe.

Q

Pulsars

A

Rapidly rotating neutron stars that emit beams of electromagnetic radiation. The rotation speed is incredibly precise, akin to cosmic lighthouses. They are among the most accurate natural clocks known to man.

Q

Quasars

A

Incredibly luminous and energetic sources found at the centre of some galaxies. They are thought to be powered by supermassive black holes consuming matter, emitting vast amounts of energy visible across immense cosmic distances. Because they are among the most incandescent objects in the universe, some quasars can outshine entire galaxies, despite being relatively small in size compared to their host galaxies.
