Describe what happens when a star becomes a **red giant**
Star has used up almost all of its Hydrogen and the outward pressure from nuclear fusion causes it to expand.
The outer parts of the star cool and glow red.
Helium fuses into other elements
29
Describe what happens during the **white dwarf **stage of a stars lifecycle
The gravitational force can no longer hold the outer layers of gas.
These gases flow out and cool to form a nebula which could become another star. The core of the original star cools.
30
Describe what happens during the **black dwarf** stage of a stars lifecycle
Fusion stops and star becomes very cold
31
What is a **neutron star**?
The collapsed core of a large star
