Calculation steps

A
  1. Calculate the ranks for variable 1.
  2. Calculate the ranks for variable 2
  3. Calculate difference (d)-Subtract variable 2 ranks from variable 1 ranks for
    each participant.
  4. Square d for each participant (d²).
  5. Sum d²
  6. Then use formula

n=the number of pairs used

Σ=”the sum of”

d’“the square of differences in rank

  1. This is the calculated correlation co-efficient

Significance

A

If the calculated r,value is greater than or equal to the critical r,value the result is significant reject Null Hypothesis. If the calculated r value is less than the critical r value the result is not significant = accept Null Hypothesis.
