What is abruptio placentae?
When placenta separates from the inner wall of the uterus before birth
How does diabetes affect the way sugar is absorbed in the tissues?
Cells have a decreased response to insulin, which means that tissue takes up and metabolizes less glucose than normal causing higher blood sugar levels
What can gestational diabetes cause besides high blood sugar?
May also cause placental structural and functional issues

Bright red bleeding, increased heart rate and low blood pressure could mean hemorrhage **immediate nursing intevention is priority

A severe form of pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting. It’s important to monitor fluid loss and electrolyte imbalances, IV fluid would most likely be needed

Vital to monitor fetal heart rate, mesure blood loss with pads, and note the color

Can cause the woman to experience breathing difficulties and loss of energy due to red blood cells being unable to transport adequate oxygen to the tissues

Turn client onto left side to relieve pressure on vena cava which will improve oxygen delivery to both mom and baby
