can be on any voweel, usually indicates that an “s” used to follow that vowel
Ç or ç
found ONLY in the letter “c”, changes a hard “c” (k sound) to a soft “c” ( s sound), never placed in front of an “e” or “i” since the “c” in front of those always sounds like “s”

can only be used with an “e”, makes the “e” sound like the vowel sound in “say”
à, è, ù
on an “a” and “u”, usually serves to distinguish between words that would be homographs, only changes the sound of the “e”
ë, ï, ü
used above the second vowel in a group o two to show that the second should also be pronounced

no space between the “o” and the “e”, the “o” is not heard in pronunciation
