Pos sign: pt cannot fully internally rotate
Resisted external rotation
Tests: infraspinatous or teres minor muscle tear or dysfunction
Pos sign: cannot resist force
External rotation lag sign
Tests: infraspinatous + suprapsinatous integrity
Pos sign: pt cannot maintain position + shoulder rotates internally on release
Apprehension test + relocation test
Tests: GHJ stability
Pos sign: APPREHENSION - apprehension or pain
RELOCATION - decrease in pain or apprehension
Posterior apprehension test
Tests: posterior shoulder instability
Pos sign: significant posterior displacement or pt apprehension
Sulcus sign
Tests: inferior shoulder stability
Pos sign: reproduction of symptoms and/or appearance of sulcus under acromion
O briens test
Test : labral pathology- ACJ pathology
pos sign: pain/ increased pain with medial rotation + decreased pain with lateral rotation
*pain inside GHJ indicate labral abnormality
*pain over ACJ indicate ACJ abnormality
Bicipital tunnel test
Tests: tenderness of biceps tendon
Pos sign: pain or tenderness when bicipital groove is palpated
Biceps load test 2
Tests: superior labral pathology
Pos sign: increased pain during resisted elbow flexion
Muscle length test rhomboid
Pos sign: tightness felt between scapula over the rhomboids
Muscle length test levator scapulae
Pos sign: tight compared to opposite side
Muscle length test pec minor
Pos sign: if lateral border of spine of scapula is more than 1 inch from bed
Varus test
Tests: instability of lateral collateral ligament
Pos sign: increased laxity
Valgus test
Tests: stability of medial collateral ligament
Pos sign: excessive laxity
Golfers elbow
Resist flexion
Test: tendinopathy of wrist flexors
Pos sign: reproduction of symptoms
Tennis elbow
Resist extension
Tests: tendinopathy of wrist extensors
Pos sign: reproduction of symptoms
Phalen’s test
Tests: median nerve pathology (hold 1min)
Pos sign: tingling or reproduction of symptoms
Tinel’s test
Test: median nerve pathology (tap carpal tunnel 30s)
Pos sign: tingling from median nerve
