Specific Heat Capacity + Internal Energy + Specific Latent Heat Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is specific latent heat?
The amount of energy required to change the state of 1kg of a substance with no change in temp
What’s the equation for specific latent heat?
E=mL
E = energy /J
M= mass/kg
L= specific latent heat J/Kg
What is internal energy?
The total kinetic energy and potential energy of all the particles
What are the two types of latent heat?
Latent heat of fusion, latent heat of vaporisation
What factors affect specific heat capacity?
- mass
- type of material
- energy input
What does a low specific heat capacity mean to how quickly the reaction heats up / cools down?
- heats up + cools down quickly
As the particles change from a liquid to being cooled and frozen, what happens to the kinetic and potential energy?
Both decrease
Why is water evaporating to steam a physical change?
The water will recover its original properties if the steam is cooled
