A

Young people in Britain began to have disposable income. Consumers were able to spend their money on luxury’s. Globalisation is relevant here as they oftenly listened to elvis who was American and they could watch films in the cinema. The time that the teddy boys emerged there were a lot of immigrants so there was a mix of cultures

Unemployment had risen hugely and almost caused Britain’s economy to collapse. Limit on pay rises - workers went on strike - gas shortages- power cuts. Openly racist. New generation starting to come in

  • Re-used ordinary objects (bricolage) to create new meaning, such as sticking safety pins in their noses and wearing bin liners for clothing. Wore swastikas, setting out to deliberately shock the establishment and society
  • short lived because of commercialised aspects of punk style into mainstream fashion
