What wavelenghts does UV Vis spectroscopy occur at?
200nm - 330nm
At what wavelengths does π-π* transitions occur and are they forbidden or not?
~200nm and Not forbidden
At what wavelengths does n-π* transitions occur and are they forbidden or not?
~300nm and they are forbidden
What does π-π* indicate about a structure?
That it has π bonding therefore is a conjugated system or an aromatic system.
If you have n-π* what do you expect?
Potentially and aldehyde or a ketone, but NOT a acid, amid or ester.
3600cm-1
OH Free non H-bonded is sharp
3500-3000
OH H bonded, broad.
N-H Usually broad amine or amide
3300
TRIPLEBOND-CH
