Proposition of fact
You are stating something that is/isn’t true and are trying to persuade the audience to agree with you
Proposition of Value
You are assigning value to something. You are arguing about how much something is worth.
Proposition of Policy
This is used if a policy in place should or shouldn’t be modified.
Ethos
The Greek for Ethics. It attempts to persude the audience with the word or the creditability of an expert.
Pathos
The Greek of emotion. Seeks to persude by trying to get an emotional response, usually through a sad story or a passionate plea.
Logos
Greek for Logic. It persuades the audience with simple logic, facts, and figures.
Bandwagon
the sense that everyone is doing/believes something; something that is increasingly popular. Everyone is doing this so you should to.
Faulty Cause-Effect
is assumes that since one event follows another event, they must be connected. seeks to connect events that may not be connected
Straw Man
gives the impression of countering someone’s arguement by refering a weak arguement that the person wasn’t making.
False Dilemma
when something is presented as having only two options when there are other options available.
The Happy Audience
An audience that agrees with you or they are close to it.
The Indifferent Audience
An audience that simply doesn’t care for your topic.
The hostile Audience
An audience that is against whatever you are trying to persuade them of.
Ad Hominem
when someone attempts to attack someone personally as opposed to countering their arguement.
Propisition
a clear statement of what you are trying to change the audiences mind about.
