Speed and Motion Flashcards
(13 cards)
location of an object
Position
change of an object’s position over time
Motion
group of objects from which a position/motion is measured
Frame of Reference
how fast an object’s position changes with time; measured by distance and time
Speed
speed and direction of a moving object
Velocity
change in velocity with respect to time
Acceleration
name given for when acceleration decreases
Decelerates
mass of an object multiplied by its velocity
Momentum
tendency of a moving object to keep moving in a straight line or any object to resist change in motion
Inertia
Who would be harder to stop - a professional hockey player skating at 4 m/s or a fifth grader skating at 4 m/s? Why?
A professional hockey player because they are trained to skate in a line and have a larger mass than a fifth grader.
How is motion measured?
You can measure motion by speed because you need to know how fast something went to calculate its motion.
How do you calculate velocity?
Speed divided by direction
How do you calculate speed?
Distance divided by time
