- Rare
- Cyst needs removal
- Usually neurologically intact

A
-Nerve roots in cyst or exposed Complications -Hydrocephaly -Tethered cord -Urinary/bowel incontinence -Locomotor limitation (paralysis) -Latex allergy -Learning disability

Rx of spina bifida
A
- Surgery to close the opening in the spine + treat hydrocephalus
- Physiotherapy and occupational therapy
- Wheelchair, orwalking aids
- Rx for incontinence

Risk factors for spina bifida
A
- FHx neural tube defects
- Folic acid deficiency
- Taking certain medications while pregnant
