Apply c-collar

  • extricate on combi carrier
  • immobilise on vac mat

Perfusion
- if BP<90
Normal saline 10ml/kg

WHat is the modified nexus criteria for spinal injuries

A

Increased injury risk
>65 years
- Hx of bone and muscle weakness

  • ACS
  • Intoxication
  • Distracting injury

Midline pain/tenderness on palpation of the vertebrae

Neck range of motion
- can actively rotate 45 degrees without pain

How do you assess motor and sensory function with spinal injury?

A

Motor function:
Arms: Push/pull/grasp
Legs: Push/pull/leg raise

Sensory:
Arm: palms and back of hands
Legs: lateral aspect of calcaneus
Suprasternal notch
