Q

Spinoza beliefs

A

-feeling of freedom was simply ignorance
-he considered everything in world totally determined by physical causes, and therefore there was no scope for human freedom
-we merely consider ourselves to be free because we’re ignorant of all causes operating upon us

Q

Spinoza - Obvious

A

-if u stop and think about it/ pointed out to you it may appear obvious
-but you normally act without considering all those influences, the approach taken by Spinoza Is therefore reasonable as far as it goes

-if you knew absolutely everything there is to know they you would understand that there are very good reasons for every apparently ‘free’ decision that you make. You think you’re making a completely free choice, but that simply reflects your ignorance of causes operating on you
