What are the responsibilities, duties, and functions of SLPA?
Make therapy materials, make therapy folders, progress reports, decorate therapy room for holidays, collect data while SLP works with clients, make communication boards
What are the responsibilities, duties, and functions of SPLA in a clinical medical setting?
Prepare charts and distribute progress notes. Organize and log incoming consultations do patient billing order supplies and equipment, place orders for modified diets for hospital patients.
Activities, duties and functions an SLPA is not allowed to do:
conduct evaluations interrupt data, alter treatment plans, participate in parent conference case conferences or interdisciplinary team conferences without supervising another SLP present, discharge clients from service, represent him or herself as an SLP, make referrals for additional services.
Differences between speech and language
Speech is articulate, voice, and fluency Language is morphology, syntax, phonology semantics, and pragmatics.
What is immediate supervision?
SLP supervisor physically present
What does medically fragile mean?
Medically unstable or acutely ill. You cannot work with this individual completely by yourself. Must be immediate supervision.
What are some examples of SPLA type work settings?
Schools, Private practice/clinic, hospitals, skilled nursing facility, rehab centers, home care.
What is receptive language disorder?
May have difficulty understanding questions, following directions, comprehending stories and understanding material presented in classroom lessons. Example) Child is having a hard time understanding a story you are telling them.
What is expressive disorder?
Examples would be naming pictures, describing experiences and expressing opinions. Example) A child might have a hard time explaining a personal story with you.
What are the common causes of articulation phonological disorders?
Hearing implants, emotional factors, structural defects affecting the articulators, developmental disabilities.
What are caseloads?
Amount of cases given in a period of time
What does IEP mean?
Individual Education Plan
What is an adult stutterer?
General reductions in social interactive skills and specific reductions in self esteem.
What is a chronological age?
Today’s date-Person’s birthdate= Chronological Age.
What is required to be an SLPA?
100 clinical hours, fingerprints, transcripts, application, photo, $50 for fee, OR BA or BS in Communicative Disorders and 70 clinical hours
