What is the purpose of the red pulp?
Has a phagocytic function (serves as a dynamic filtration system)
What does the spleen contain?
Comprised of large numbers of venous sinuses which drain into the splenic vein.
what is 25% of the spleen contain?
25% of splenic volume
Consists of nodules
Has an immunological function.
What is the marginal zone?
Junction between the red and white pulp where the lymphocytes are loosely aggregated
What is the purpose of the marginal zone?
Blood is delivered from here to the red pulp where the lymphocytes and immunoglobulins enter the systemic circulation.

splenorenal
gastrosplenic
What vessels run in the gastro splenic ligament?
short gastric artery
left gastro omental artery
What vessels run the splenorenal ligament?
splenic artery
What is the blood supply of the spleen?
splenic artery

What is the spleen derived from?
Derived from mass of mesenchymal cells located between the layers of the dorsal mesogastrium.
How is the spleen found in a fetus?
Is lobulated in the fetus but they disappear before birth

As stomach rotates, the left surface of the mesogastrium fuses with the peritoneum over the left kidney
