STAT Flashcards
(21 cards)
branch of science with the development of methods for a more effective of collecting, organizing, presenting, and analyzing data.
Statistics
collection of all collection of all units from which data is to be collected.
Population
a unit in the population
Element
listing of all elements of the summation notation exercises population.
Frame
Census
process of gathering information from all units of the population.
a subset or a representative part of the population.
Sample
process of gathering information from a sample.
Sampling or sample survey
deals largely with summary calculations, graphical and tabular displays, and describing important features of a set of data.
Descriptive Statistics
concerned w making generalizations for a bigger group of observations (the population) based on information gathered from a small group of observations (the sample) drawn from the given population.
Inductive or Inferential Statistics
What are the two types of Data
Quantitative, Qualitative
data expressed as numbers
Quantitative Data
data for which no numerical measure exists; usually expressed in categories or kind.
Qualitative
- Characteristics or properties measured from the objects, persons or things
Variables
What are the two types of variables
Discrete, Continuous
finite number of possible values.
Discrete Variable
infinite number of possible values.
Continuous Variable
- the process of assigning a numerical value to a characteristic of the object that is being measured.
Measurements
Level of Measurement: Identity
Nominal
Level of Measurement: identity, order
Ordinal
Level of Measurement: identity, order, equality of scale
Interval
Level of Measurement: identity, order, equality of scale, absolute zero
Ratio
