DISAGREEMENT OVER ROLE IN CAPITALISM
- revsoc believe state is instrument of oppression controlled by bourgeoisie to protect dominance. MARX says state must be overthrown and replaced with proletariat state then communism
- social dems believe state can be a force for good if regulated. CROSLAND said that strong state is essential to ensuring equality and protecting workers rights
- HOWEVER agree that state is critical to shaping society
- BUT marx thinks capitalist state is inherently oppressive, crosland thinks it can create positive reform
PARAGRAPH TWO
CENTRALISATION VS DECENTRALISATION
- revsoc want centralisation in aftermath of revolution. LUX says to ensure that power is consolidate to dismantle capitalist structures
- third way want to decentralise power to local communicates to make system more democratic. GIDDENS says it fosters local empowerment and strengthens community bonds
- HOWEVER both want to change where power is located
- BUT lux sees centralisation as necessary for revolution, giddens wants to reform by decentralisation
PARAGRAPH THREE
AGREEMENT ON SHORT TERM NECESSITY
- all agree that the state is needed at least in the short term to further socialist goals
- MARX thinks it is needed in the transition to redistribute resources and dismantle capitalism
- CROSLAND believes state is essential for regulating capitalism and reducing inequality
- HOWEVER disagree over whether state is permanent or not
- BUT both see state as crucial in achieving their goals
