Cognitive neuroscience
A field where specialist from many other fields are interested in the connection between mental processes and the brain
Consciousness
The process in which one is aware in world we live in
Nonconscious processes
Any brain process that doesn’t involve conscious processing
Ex: chewing gum , walking & breathing at the same time
Preconscious memories
Information that was once conscious , but is now in the back of your head until recalled by conscious voluntarily or something catches its attention to them
Unconscious
Level of processing that occur without awareness ; the mind operating well outside the conscious mind .
Daydreaming
When attention is shift to memories , expectations , desires , or fantasies and away from immediate situation
Circadian rhythms
Bodily patterns that repeat every 24 hours in both sleep & wakefulness cycle
REM sleep
A stage in sleep which occur every 90 minutes , marked by the rapid eye movements occurring under closed eyelids . REM sleep periods are associated with dreams
Non-REM (NREM) sleep
Recurring periods associated with the deeper stage of sleep with no rapid eye movement
Sleep paralysis
Cant move your muscles while sleeping except the eyes muscles (normally occur in REM sleep)
REM rebound
Increase of REM sleep cause by REM sleep deprivation
Sleep debt
Not getting the right amount of sleep that is require to function right
