Q

What happens if 2 insulators are rubbed together?

A

Friction occurs and the electrons transfer from one material to the other. This object becomes negatively charged.

Q

What is static electricity?

A

Static electricity is the stationary electric charge which is produced by friction which causes sparks, or the attraction of other small objects such as dust or hair.

Q

How does static electricity work?

A

If two object are oppositely charged , then the electrons in the air molecules in the field between them experience a force towards the positive object

If the force is strong enough, some electrons will be pulled from the air molecules.

These electrons then hit other air molecules, causing them to loose electrons.

This causes a sudden flow of electrons between the two charged objects
