Q

What is a non- contact force?

A

A charge object creates an electric field around it. A second charged object in that field experiences a force because of that field.
The closer the two charged objects, the stronger the force between them.

Q

How do you draw an electric field?

A

Remember that like charges repel and unlike attract. The arrow on an electric field diagram will point in the direction that a small positive charge Q would follow in the electric field. If the charge is positive, the arrows would be facing away. If negative, coming in. Closer the fields are, the stronger the fields are, represented by closely spaced lines.

Q

What happens when two insulating materials are rubbed together?

A

1 Insulator is stripped of electrons and is transferred to the other by friction. This means that one of the insulators are more positive and the other is more negatively charges. Electrons are transferred. A non contact force acts between these charges.
