What does the variance of a distribution tell us?
How spread the data or results are from each other.
If a set of data has a variance of 0 , what does that suggest?
All values of that data are the same.
If X is Poisson what does this mean about it’s data type , and what values can it accept?
Means it is discrete random so it can only take whole values.
Equation for Poisson distribution
P(X=x)
What is a discrete random variable?
A variable that has a distinct number of numerical values that depends on chance.
What does the variance tell us?
How far out/ how much the random variables of a distribution vary from the expected value/ mean.
What are the conditions that need to be met in order to use the Poisson distribution?
Events must occur randomly.
Events happen one at a time.
Events happen at a constant rate.
