Staying Alive PITT Flashcards
(28 cards)
what is within a plant cell
cell wall, cell membrane, nucleus, chloroplast, ribosomes, mitochondria, vacuoles, and cytosol
what is cytoplasm
organelles and cytosol (not nucleus)
what is the cell theory
all living things are made of cells, cells are the basic unit of life, new cells come from pre-existing cells
what is the equation for energy
glucose+ ozygen-> water, carbon dioxide, and energy
function of nucleus?
nucleus controls cell’s activities and contains DNA
function of chloroplast?
photosynthesis and contains chlorophyll
whats found in plant cells but not animal cells
cell wall, chloroplast, and vacuole
whats the role of respiration in cells
turns glucose into energy
how are new cells produced?
mitosis
how many times does a cell split when dividing
twice
what are the organs for the digestive system
oral cavity, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, anus
what organs also relate to digestive
liver, gallbladder, pancreas,
what is the function of a liver
processes nutrients absorbed form small intestine and drugs+ produces bile to digest lipids
function of gallbladder
stores bile and releases into small intestine
function of pancreas
produces digestive enzymes and produces insulin
whats the function of the digestive system
breaks down food into nutrients on a cellular level for the body to absorb and use for energy. also removes waste
what are the organs within a circulatory system
heart, arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venioles, veins
how does the blood flow
right atrium through the superior and inferior vena cava then into the right ventricle then out through the pulmonary artery to get oxygenated by the lungs then back through the pulmonary vein into the left atrium and it gets pumped out by the left ventricle through the aorta
what is the order of organs for respiratory system
nasal/oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli
technology that relates to body systems in the future
stem cells that can be used to treat patients who need bone marrow transplant
what is within chloroplast
chlorophyll (makes plants green)
what is the role of insulin
helps sugar to be absorbed from the bloodstream into the cells of the body
what is the role of bile
helps with digestion and lipid absorbtion
what is the role of chlorophyll
helps with photosynthesis
