Captioner (Stenocaptioner)
A stenotypist who captions television programs. Much captioning is done in a realtime environment.
CART
Communication Access Realtime Translation - instant translation services provided by ESL or hearing impaired students by stenotype
CAT
Computer-Aided Trascription - the use of computers to translate stenotype notes
CBC
Certified Broadcast Captioner - certification acquired by passing NCRA’s CBC/CCP examination
CCP
Certified CART provider - acquired by passing NCRA’s CBC/CCP examination
CIC
Computer-Integrated Courtroom - the use of computers by court reporters in the courtroom itself - associated with realtime writing
Conflict
Using the same outline for more than one word - need to be corrected in the edit phase as the computer cannot always know the correct word - inappropriate for realtime
Conflict Free
A system of writing whereby every word has a unique outline. StenEd is conflict free
CRI
Certified Reporting Instructor - acquired by taking NCRA’s CRI examination
