Step 3 Flashcards
(10 cards)
What are we doing at this step?
comparing by feel
At this step we are comparing by feel, but where are we feeling?
Palpating the shoulder joint
Palpating from the stereo-clavicular joint across the clavicle to the acromio-clavicular joint.
palpating the coracoid process
palpating down the humerus
Assessing for winging scapula
palpate down cervical spine
check for sensory deficits
When palpating the shoulder joints, what are we feeling for? what can this indicate
Heat which can indication inflammation or septic arthritis
what are we looking for when palpating from the stereo-clavicular joint to the acromio-clavicular joint
heat, crepitus, pain, tenderness, swelling
When palpating the coracoid processes we are feeling for what?
heat, crepitus, pain, tenderness, swelling
when palpating down the humerus what are we palpating for ?
heat, crepitus, pain, tenderness, swelling
How do we assess for winging scapula ?
Ask the patient to reach there arms out and put there hands on a wall flat.
scapulas will push out if there is winging of the scapula.
cause of winging scapula and what can it indicate ?
This is caused by damage or contusion to the long thoracic nerve of the shoulder or weakness to the serrates anterior muscle
Additionally if the long thoracic nerve is damaged or bruised it can cause paralysis of the serrtaus anterior muscle which can lead to winged scapula
Palpate down the cervival spine for ?
heat, crepitus, pain, tenderness, swelling
where are we checking for sensory deficits?
