Q

List the beliefs of stewardship that are apart of the Christian faith?

A

Christians believe in a divine creator and a world that has a God-given purpose. They see Jesus Christ as the agent of all creation. When Jesus came into the world as a human being it was God who was born, lived, died, and rose again. Human acts that harm the world are an offense against God the creator.
Throughout the Bible, Jews and Christians are instructed to give a tenth of their income called (tithe) as a sign that all material wealth belongs to God. Christians usually set a time for worship, whether it’s the Sabbath day or on a Sunday.

Time can also be given by doing voluntary work both in the church or the community.

Q

Beliefs about stewardship that are apart of the Jewish faith?

A

Sharing the same creation story with Christians, Jews also believe that God created the world. This story suggests that the world was created by God and man is constantly called by God to act as stewards of the earth. The world was placed in humans’ hands for safe-keeping, but man has failed the test that God set him.

Jewish people believe that the world belongs to God and that people are partners with God in the care of the environment. The Torah forbids the permanent destruction of natural resources, even at a time of war. It says that the consequences of people’s actions should be considered carefully so that they don’t threaten the future of mankind.

The Torah states that Jewish people can work six days of the week but must rest on the seventh day of the week. For a Jew, Shabbat (Sabbath) is a time for worship, prayer, study, and reflection.
