What are the components of stigma? (steroytype, prejudice and fear)
Stigma includes stereotypes, prejudices (attitudes and feelings like fear), and discrimination (behavioral reactions).
What is the Interactional Processing Model in the context of stigma?
The model explains how social distancing occurs due to information about someone’s mental health disorder. It includes generalized and individualized social distancing, which can worsen the stigma.
What does ISD, GSD, and NSD stand for?
ISD = Individualized Social Distancing, GSD = Generalized Social Distancing, NSD = No Social Distancing.
How does stigma create a feedback loop?
The process of stigma-related behavior leads to altered interactions, internalized stigma, and more stigma-related behavior, creating a reciprocal and reinforcing cycle.
What does BOOST and HOP stand for in addressing stigma?
BOOST = Be Outspoken and Overcome Stigmatizing Thoughts. HOP = Honest, Open, and Proud.
