- colostomy- from any section of the large bowel, further up bowel more liquid as less water removed then further down
- ileostomy- from the ileum, output is looser, more liquid stool, may be end or loop
- urostomy- for urine

What is a stoma and what should be considered?

- stoma, empties into a bag which collects the contents and then gets drained by the patient
- there are different types of bags
- covers, drops and aerosoels are available to conseal the bag and odors that may come from it
- important to maintain skin integry around stoma as can be easilly iriitated.
- important patient is educated and knowledgeable about self-care for their stoma
