What is STR?

A
  • An advanced manual technique used in assessing and stretching
    soft tissues
  • Unique in that it targets specific areas of increased tension within a muscle and also muscles that are normally difficult to stretch
  • Can be performed both actively and passively

When can it be used?

A

If used slowly and conscientiously, STR can
be used before, during or after a massage
treatment or event

A

The therapist applies the lock and moves the client’s body to facilitate the stretch

The therapist applies the lock and the client moves his/her body to bring about the stretch

A

The client applies the lock themselves and performs the stretch without assistance.
The general principle is of shortening the muscle, adding the ‘lock’ and then lengthening the muscle
