A
  1. Create strategic intent
    - an intentional mismatch between resources and ambitions
    - allocate resources in pursuit of this goal
  2. Use challenges to motivate/guide managers and employees towards the strategic intent.
  3. Create competitive innovation
    - layers of advantage
    - searching for loose bricks
    - changing terms of engagement
    - competing through collaboration

Can be linked to - disruptive innovation, active waiting

what is competitive innovation?

A

The means through which the strategic intent is reached.
Four main sources;

Build layers of advantage

Search for loose bricks

  • find uncontested profit sanctuary lying close to the market you wish to disrupt.
  • what is the competitor’s ‘served market’

Changing terms of engagement
- refuse to accept the front-runners definition of industry and segment boundaries.
