Traditional competitor analysis
focuses on existing resources (human, technical and financial) of present competitors.
like a snapshot of a moving car, providing no info about speed or direction
The essence of strategy..
is creating tomorrow’s competitive advantages faster than competitors mimic the ones you possess today.
Three main principles;
- Create strategic intent
- an intentional mismatch between resources and ambitions
- allocate resources in pursuit of this goal - Use challenges to motivate/guide managers and employees towards the strategic intent.
- Create competitive innovation
- layers of advantage
- searching for loose bricks
- changing terms of engagement
- competing through collaboration

The means through which the strategic intent is reached.

- find uncontested profit sanctuary lying close to the market you wish to disrupt.
- what is the competitor’s ‘served market’
Changing terms of engagement
- refuse to accept the front-runners definition of industry and segment boundaries.
