Stroke - Ch 15 Flashcards
(12 cards)
ACA
Contralateral hemiparesis and sensory loss with greater involvement of LEs
MCA
contralateral spastic hemiaresis and sensory loss of the face, UE and LE
UE and face more involved
NIHSS
scale that includes 11 items and uses variable ordinal scale
some items scored 0-2 and some 0-3
LOC, best gaze, visual fields, facial palsy, limb ataxia, sensory, best language, dysarthria, extinction and inattention
0-4: motor arm and leg
Brunnstrom stages of recovery
1 = no mvmnt of limbs can be elicited 2 = minimal voluntary movement, spasticity begins 3 = pt gains voluntary control of mvmnt synergies 4 = movements combinations that don't follow paths of synergy are mastered; spasticity declines 5 = more difficult movement combinations are learned, synergies lose dominance 6 = disappearance of spasticity, individual joint mvmnt become possible and coordination approaches normal
Ideational apaxia
inability of the pt to produce movement either on command or automatically
Ideomotor apraxia
pt is unable to produce a movement on command but can move automatically
PASS
acute stroke
12 items that examine sitting and standing without support, standing on paretic LE, and changing posture… scored with ordinal scale
Trunk impairment scale
3 static control 10 dynamic control 4 coordination Each item performed 3 times with highest score accepted 0 = unable, max = 23
FIST - function in sitting
14 items static and dynamic balance
Scoring based on 5 point ordinal scale (0 = no balance,)
Max score is 56
Pusher syndrome
active pushing with the stronger extremities toward the hemiparetic side
Fugl meyer
0 (not able) to 2 (fully performed)
UE max = 66
LE max = 34
balance max = 14
STREAM
30 items (UE, LE, basic mobility) each limb max = 20, basic mobility max = 30 so total the max is 70
