Q

Hemorrhagic stroke

A

Weakened vessel wall ruptures, causing bleeding in the brain
Around 15% of all strokes
35-52% of all patients die within first 30 days

Q

General stroke symptoms

A

Sudden onset:
Limb weakness in one side of the body
Numbness/tingling of the face or limbs on one side of the body
Confusion, trouble speaking or comprehending speech
Walking, loss of balance, disco ordination, vertigo
Vision problems in one or both eyes
Severe headache with no known cause

Q

Transient ischemic attack (TIA)

A

Similar symptoms to stroke
No neuroimaging evidence or resolves within 24 hours
Most last less than 1 hour; no tissue death
Caused by brief blocking of a cerebral vessel
Could warn of a future stroke; 8-10% have a stroke within 3 months
