Dialogue
Conversatikn between two or more characters
Future tense
A verb that describes something that will happen in the future e.g. ‘they will laugh’
Narrator
The person who tells the story
Past tense
A verb that describes something that happened in the past e.g. ‘they laugh’ or ‘they laughed’

Where the events take place

A written story or account
Narrative voice
The person telling the story from there point of view
Perspective
A particular view of something
Flashback
A section in a text that is set before the events of the main story
Structural feature
A feature that helps to structure a text
Sequence
The oder in which things happen
Alliteration
he first letter of a word is repeated in words that follow; the cold, crisp, crust of clean, clear ice.
Assonance
the same vowel sound is repeated but the consonants are different; he passed her a sharp, dark glance, shot a cool, foolish look across the room.
Colloquial
Language that is used in speech with an informal meaning; ‘chill’, ‘out of this world’, ‘take a rain check’
Dialect
the version of language spoken by particular people in a particular area, such as Scots.
Irony
the humorous or sarcastic use of words or ideas, implying the opposite of what they mean.
Oxymoron
Where two words normally not associated are brought together: ‘cold heat’ ‘bitter sweet’.
Narrow focus
The writer focuses in on a specific (often small details) section of the text
Wider focus
Often deals with bigger details - setting extra
Switch focus
When writer changes focus from something to another thinking/doing/feelings
Cyclical structure
Where a story ends in a similar way to how it begins this could be through the setting action characters etc:…
Climax
Most exiting part of the story
Anti-climax
Disappointing
