Sentence structure shows shared blame. Links everyone together, idea of joint responsibility.
Mr B vs Inspector values clash
‘a man has to mind his own business and look after himself and his own – and -’
we hear the sharp ring of a door bell. Birling stops to listen.
Interruption displays how Inspector intervenes with his values- physical interruption of Mr B talking about his Capitalist ideas foreshadows how Inspector will interfere with them, instead presenting Socialist ideas. Clash of characters = clash of ideas/values.
Inspector interrupts him mid-sentence: foreshadows how he will not listen to Mr B
Mr B is also interrupted when he talks about the ‘famous younger generation’, implying that his view on them is mistaken as well.
