Structured Interviews (Advantages) Flashcards
(6 cards)
What’s one advantage of structured Interviews
high response rate
what’s one example of SI having a high response rate
for example out of 987 people young and willmott approached for their study, only 54 refused to be interviewed. this may be because people find it harder to turn down a face to face request
why is having a high response rate a theoretical advantage
high response rates help to produce a more representative result and therefore a better basis for making generalisations
what’s one theoretical Advantages of SI
they’re reliable
why are SI seen as reliable
they’re seen as reliable because it is easy for the researchers to standardise and control them as they can ensure that each interview is conducted in precisely the same way, with the same questions, in the same order. therefore, any other researcher following the same procedures should get similar results.
what’s one practical advantage
the results are easily quantified because they use close ended questions with coded answers. this makes them suitable for hypothesis testing
