Where does the Aramaic language come from?
Aram was one of the five sons of Shem, so these were a Semitic people who settled in the region of Syria. Aramean, as a language, was derived from the combination of early Babylonian and Assyrian dialects, which in turn came from an early Chaldean language known as Akkadian. The captives learned this language while in captivity and took it back with them to Israel.
