The result of Spanish exploration to the West Indies was
An integration of new plants(tobacco, maize, beans, tomatoes, potatoes) and animals(iguanas, rattlesnakes, horses) into both Native American and European cultures
How did slavery work in the West Indies and who was involved
African slaves were used to harvest sugar cane(which ran the economy) and sugar lords controlled the system.
Barbados Slave codes
Prevented the slaves from having the most fundamental rights and gave their masters complete control over them.
What were Puritan beliefs and how did they play a role in the formation of America
Puritans believed in breaking away from Catholicism in England. The separatist puritans eventually went on to found the Massachusetts bay colony.
How did the landing at Jamestown effect the future of the US
Jamestown was the first settlement in Virginia, which would begin to make a lot of money when it starts exporting tobacco
How did the pilgrims arrive and settle at Massachusetts
After leaving England, the pilgrims went to Holland but left shortly after because they didn’t want their children to be Dutch. The pilgrims landed and settled at Plymouth Bay. Next, the Massachusetts bay colony landed and absorbed the Plymouth Bay colony.
How did New England form and what were its economic activities.
New England formed after the founding of Massachusetts and Connecticut. The fundamental orders establishes a democratic regime. Fishing was essential to New England’s economy
What was the difference between slave labor and indentured servitude
Slave labor was forced upon blacks while indentured servitude was for people who wanted to work for their passage into America.
Colonial politics
8 colonies had royal governors, 3 had picked governors, 2 had elected. Many colonies had a bill of rights. Believed in no taxation without representation.
What religious denominations existed
Anglican- primarily in VA, South, Maryland- Church of England
Congregation- New England- puritans
Baptists- Grew during the 1st great awakening
Quakers- Pennsylvania
Why did the French and Indian war occur
G.W. Tried to attack fort Dunquense and was overrun by the French. The war ended with French land going to English colonies and southern land going to the Spanish.
What role did Chief Pontiac play after the 7 years war
He United the Native American groups and started pontiacs rebellion
What events led to the war for independance
Mercantilism- England was using colonies to boost its wealth
Navigation laws- prevented colonies from selling goods to other nations
Stamp Act- Taxation without representation

Declaration of rights was drafted

What happened during the battle of Yorktown and what followed
Cornwallis gets trapped in Yorktown by the colonial army and Degrasse’s navy. The colonies gained the Appalachians and the Mississippi River, as well as Florida

Privateers were used as legalized pirates who captured British sailors.
What was politics like between Anti-Federalists and Federalists
Federalists argued for a strong central government while anti-Federalists argued for states rights and a weaker central government.
What was America like at the time of the constitution
America was very weak at the time the constitution was introduced because the Articles of confederation made money worthless and depended on donations and had no standing army.
What were French-American relations like in the 1790s
Relations were not good because the Neutrality proclamation had nullified the Franco-American alliance which bound the US to help France and pay debt

Jay’s treaty was not well received in the US because Britain won too many concession and Jay won few for the US

It tripled the size of the US and forced Napoleon to abandon his idea of a new world empire

Burr wanted to take territory and secede with his followers and Hamilton found out.
How did the Chesapeake affair cause a change in foreign diplomacy
It caused the embargo act of 1807 which was intended to hurt the British by preventing them from receiving US goods
What did the Embargo act do
It was intended to hurt the British but it ended up hurting the US because a ban on exports meant a huge loss of revenue
