what is a prospective cohort study

A

a longitudinal cohort study that follows a group of similar individuals over time who differ in respect to certain factors to determine how these factors affect the rates of certain outcomes

what is a retrospective cohort

A

a cohort of individuals that share a common exposure factor is compared to another group of equivalent individuals not exposed to that factor to determine the factors influence on the incidence of a condition such as disease of death

What is a cross sectional study

A

observational study
data collected at a defined time. Often used to assess the PREVELENCE of acute or chronic conditions but cannot be used to answer questions about the cause off disease of results of an intervention

what is a case control study

A

Often used to identify factors that may contribute to a medical condition by comparing subjects who have that condition/disease with patients who do not but are otherwise similar

-basically trying to find the exposure
