What is a formal or structured questionnaire?
Read out by a researcher.
What is a structured interview?
Read questions to you with closed questions.
What are semi structured interviews?
Open and closed questions.
What are unstructured interviews?
Conversation style.
Difference between anonymity and confidentiality?
Anonymous- remaining nameless
Confidentiality- keeping results private.
What is the right to withdraw?
All participants have the right to withdraw.
What is informed consent?
Explaining the research to our participants. Eg. The aims.
What is a sampling frame?
A small group from the population.
What is a sample?
Selection of people from a sampling frame.
What is random sampling?
Like pulling names out of a hat.
What is systematic sampling?
Selecting names at regular intervals from a list.
What is stratified random sampling?
Sampling frame divided into groups and random names selected.
What is quota sampling?
Interviewer sees a certain amount of people. With some from different categories and then getting the people together.
What is snowball sampling?
If a sampling frame is difficult to come across then snowball sampling is what should be used. The researcher finds people with similar traits and gets them together.
What is purpose sampling?
Sample selected by known characteristics.
What is participant observation?
The observer is involved in the research.
What is non participant observation?
The observer is not involved in research.
What is a longitudinal study?
Observation which involves repeated observations over a long period of time.
