When do you use disulfiram for UAD?
What’s its other name and MOA?
Aka Antabuse
in a pt who’s super motivated and willing to be anbstinent. B/c you can easily skip a dose and drink
MOA: inhibits alcohol dehydrogenase and makes you feel sick
What medications are considered first line in moderate-severe AUD?
Naltrexone and acamprosate
MOA acamprosate
It’s a glutamate modulator
Benzo withdrawal
Tachycardia, inc in BP, hyperpyrexia
Anxiety, panic attacks, irritability, restlessness, insomnia
DELIRIUM and Psychosis
Tremors, seizures, rarely death
What RR should you really start to worry is opiate overdose?
The best predictor of acute toxicity is a respiratory rate <12/min as opioids act directly on brainstem respiratory centers to produce respiratory depression
